Interesting blog.
Actually these days,...Hi, Nilla. Interesting blog.

Actually these days, political commentators do speak of up to six zones:

- North-West: some Core-North states

- North-Central: some Middle-Belt

- North-East: a mixture of Middle-Belt and Core-North states

- South-West: Yoruba states

- South-South: non-Igbo and Yoruba states in the South

- South-East: Igbo states

However, you're right that most people still think in terms of North and South.

You're right that with a system of zoning political posts to regions, the best person might not get the post. However, the reality is that Nigerians still identify very strongly with their regions, and as long as this is the case, people will continue to feel aggrieved if a post is continuously given to someone from a particular zone that isn't theirs, even if that person is the best qualified person.

So, for the foreseeable future, we'll have to settle for good enough people from all zones rather than the best people from a particular zone being selected for a particular position. But I think that as the zoning policy goes on and people see that the zone that the person comes from is less important than how he performs, zoning will become less of an issue.Atala Wala Walahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16114929068065201283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1791702943009650487.post-71759921801255414432006-12-19T07:15:00.000+01:002006-12-19T07:15:00.000+01:00@ Naijabloke
